Documentary Wedding Photographer Dimitris Michalopoulos
DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
The genre of photography that I specialise in has several different names: documentary wedding photography, wedding photojournalism and reportage wedding photography. This simply means that I tell the story of your wedding day through pictures. Having said this I do love to encourage each couple I work with to have a walk with me away from the wedding party on the day. This allows me to capture some candid moments of you together, If we can make it happen it’s often a part of the wedding day that I love and can help me to produce some beautiful images that you will cherish in the years to come..
Largely what my job as a documentary wedding photographer entails, is to be the observer on the day, to look out for those special little moments and to capture the wow ones when they happen. Aside from capturing the emotion and atmosphere I’m always looking for something a little different. A moment not like anything I’ve seen before. This inspires me as a photographer. The one great photograph is what I’m after. Often it’s the photos like these that have different elements that make them memorable.
I often find myself watching and waiting before I start to capture images. I look for compositions and observe how the light falls. But above all, I observe people's emotions and interactions.
Documentary wedding photography is all about storytelling. I aim, throughout the day, to weave together a pictorial representation of the events. I'm looking for delicate just as much as high impact moments. An experienced documentary wedding photographer is a storyteller with an natural ability to be in the right place at the right time.
